PRE HONOURS PROJECT

2017

Jamie did her pre-honours project with Dr. Natalie Trevaskis. The title of her project was ‘Determination of ibuprofen by a simple HLPC method and its application in in vitro drug release study’. The one-month project aimed to develop an HPLC method to quantify ibuprofen. She learned a lot about optimising HPLC methods and the theories behind it.

SUMMER RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

2017

Jamie spent 6 weeks of the summer break at Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication (MCN) for her summer research scholarship project. The project aimed to attach glucose oxidases onto porous silicon to make a glucose sensor. It was her first time learning about the electrochemical properties of materials and its applications. Even though 6 weeks were insufficient to optimise a glucose sensing platform, it was a very fruitful experience.

HONOURS RESEARCH

2018

Jamie's Honours project was supervised by Professor Ben Boyd and Dr Angel Tan. The project was about the interactions of lipid crystalline liquid nanoparticles with healthy human cells. To characterise the nanoparticles, she had the chance to do experiments at the Australian Synchrotron using the small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Confocal microscopy and Coherent anti-Stroke Raman microscopy (CARS) were employed to observe the nanoparticle-cell interactions.
